The size of the anchors |
For a 10 deck ship that weighed 46,328 tons, 15,000 workers were hired at Harland and Wolff, the shipbuilding company that built Titanic. It took 26 months to build the ship and the anchors were the last pieces to be put in place.
There were three anchors for this unsinkable ship made by Hingley's Anchor Works, owned by Noah Hingley and son. The center anchor was said to weigh 16 tons, the largest and heaviest anchor at that time. The combined weight of all three anchors was 31 tons.
